The Durham Community Safety Department (DCSD) launched the HEART pilots in 2022 and then expanded the program city-wide in 2023.

HEART is a team of first responders (made up of mental health clinicians, peer support specialists, and EMTs). They provide care for 911 calls that may involve mental health needs and other quality-of-life concerns.
